The following advertisement that was placed in Manhattan found a buyer, which visited the domain on Sedo to purchase the domain. Since then, I made some adjustments on my sales approach to refer buyers to a third part domain sales platform. The sales pitch was prepared during the learning stage.

The original ad is below to show you an example of what the buyer used to make a decision.

It really does turn out we’re biased towards idiocy. Fortunately, by studying our biases we can keep ourselves from acting on them. A favorite source of fascinating and useful psychological insights is Dan Ariely, Professor of Behavioral Economics at Duke University and author of two excellent books, The Upside of Irrationality, and Predictably Irrational. He’s also the host of a podcast series called, Arming the Donkeys. In this excerpt from an interview with Princeton University psychology professor Danny Oppenheimer, they discuss the findings of a study [pdf] where Danny’s team discovered that the difficulty of pronouncing a stock’s name predicted how it would do on its IPO. The area of inquiry is called fluency. Fluency is the property of a person or of a system that delivers information quickly and with expertise.

(Click arrow to play audio) Easy for you to say?

My takeaway is a simple extrapolation: The easier it is to pronounce, spell, and remember your company’s name, the better off you are, especially at launch.

Potentially breaking news here. It looks like Francois Carrillo has just released a new domain escrow service – eCop.com! This doesn’t look like just any escrow service though, it provides flexibility among multiples parties and multiple scenarios all at an extremely low cost! Straight-up sales look like they cost $20 per action required by eCop (ie. $20 for possession + $20 for payment disbursement) or $25 for a non-possession-based escrow.

The coolest part of the new service is the flexibility in options. Leasing, swapping and complex sales can all occur with low fees of just $20 per action!

I am sure more details will be released soon as I only noticed the new site based on a banner at the bottom of Cax.com.

But what do you think? If someone was early to the Twitter game and took the time to register 100 keyword accounts around the possibility that someday Twitter handles would be valuable, is that wrong? Now that it’s apparent that Twitter handles ARE ‘valuable’, but that person’s not using them, should he give them up – release them back into the Twitosphere? And what about you? Do you ‘own’ multiple Twitter handles? Did you secure the Twitter handle to match your domain name or does some ‘Twitter squatter’ have it now? … [visit site to read more]

Why would you advertise your company during the Super Bowl if your target audience wasn’t average Americans? GoDaddy’s phenomenal growth over the last few years is evidence enough- domaining is mainstream! While the average person might throw their arms up in frustration at not finding an available name they like, they certainly won’t hesitate to register a name, phrase, portmanteau or new business idea they come up with either.

WeddingCoordinator.com – sold for $7,000 in the live auction. I like this domain and think someone got a nice deal.

BVI.com/.co was a big sale from Tuesday, the LLL combo sold for $110,000. Shock.com sold for $200,000 which was the largest sale from the Miami event. Also, Idle.com sold at $20,000, Coches.co drove home $15,000 and Taxidermist.com stuffed $11,000. Another LLL combination MHZ.com/.co reached $15,000.

The flowers.mobi sale is getting the most attention from the auction due to the saga behind the domain that keeps getting more and more interesting. Rick Schwartz, the Founder of the Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Conference bought the domain for $200k in 2006 at a T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction. Four years later he has sold it at the same venue for $6500. The buyer? He’s perhaps the biggest anti domaining commenter on the most popular domain blogs who goes by the handle ‘Anunt’. George Kirikos brought up another interesting piece of info about flowers.mobi on DomainState this morning.

Overall, the live auction results were a little on the light side. Rick even addressed that the auction system will be changing from the ‘ground up’ in his post this morning where he asked for feedback from T.R.A.F.F.I.C. attendees.

As an example to startups especially, I wanted to highlight this recent auction as an example of the kinds of domains that can be acquired for reasonable prices. If you’re getting ready to launch and are facing the difficult task of finding the right name consider enlisting my help. I know where and how to look for great names at reasonable prices.

I recently participated in a domain auction for the domain Penance.com. I actually have content that matches the domain perfectly.
