According to an announcement from the seller, CEO Simon Buckingham said:

“Ringtones.com was the domain name that started the Mobile Streams content business.”

“However, as we reinvent the company for the coming wave of open mobile services and apps, we are looking ahead to the exciting opportunities that our new Appitalism.com service presents.

“We want to ensure that the company has the appropriate financial resources necessary to take full advantage of the rapidly growing apps market.”

The company will use funds from the sale to invest in capitalising on the significant opportunities for its new Appitalism.com apps, games, music and eBooks service in 2011.

“”After taking into account a carve-out through which it will retain ownership of specific Latin American Ringtones.com sub-domains for an interim transitional period, the net cash consideration is $575,000.”

Domain name purchases come in advance of new make-for-tablet newspaper.

Earlier today news hit the web that News Corp founder Rupert Murdoch is working on a new iNewspaper called “The Daily”. The Daily will be designed for tablets such as the iPad.

This caught one Domain Name Wire reader off guard, as he recalls previously visiting TheDaily.com from ASSIST Information Services. As it turns out, ASSIST sold the domain name to Murdoch’s company a while back (it looks like this happened last year) and changed its web address to TheDailyHomepages.com.

More recently, Murdoch bought The-Daily.com from BuyDomains in August of this year.

Both TheDaily.com and The-Daily.com are listed as owned by DNStinations, a stealth domain name acquisition company, but show dowjones.com as their nameservers.

Sedo is reporting that the the domain name blackfridaysales.com has sold for $90,000.

It appears to be have been registered to Frank Schilling’s Name Administration for the last couple of days.

Black Friday is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving in the US, when pre-Christmas sales traditionally kick off. This year, it falls on November 26.

The operator of the domain blackfriday.com, which was a 2001 $10 hand registration, says it received over 18 million unique visitors last year, and that 70% of them were direct type-in visits.

Oddly, blackfriday.info seems to rank better in Google for the search [black friday], for me at least.

Other five figure sales Sedo is currently reporting include valuable.com ($28,500), webengine.com ($50,000), adhoc.com (65,000 euros), rodon.com (20,000 euros), uganda.de (20,000 euros) and littleangels.com ($50,000).

DiscountVouchers.co.uk has acquired the equivalent .com domain for £100,000 ($158,000).

The private sale, apparently sealed after owner Barry Garner offered it for sale in a forum post at Affiliates4U.com last week, does not appear to have closed yet, judging by Whois records.

The buyer, who claims the .co.uk site will handle £50 million to £100 million of sales to merchants in its first year, reportedly said the primary motivation behind the deal was brand protection.

Link To Full Story: Domain Name Wire

Marketplace deals exclusively with domains that receive traffic.

Francois Carrillo of Domaining.com has launched a brand new marketplace for selling domains that get traffic. In keeping with Carrillo’s love of great domain names, the marketplace is aptly named TrafficDomains.com.

Even more exciting for me is that Carrillo has chosen to use DNW Certified Stats to authenticate traffic stats on the site. One of the big challenges to buying domains with traffic is getting accurate information from the seller. By requiring users to use DNW Certified Stats when listing a domain, TrafficDomains.com brings more transparency to the process.

To list a domain on TrafficDomains.com you enter its details along with your DNW Certified Stats certificate number:

TrafficDomains.com then grabs traffic and revenue data directly from DNWStats.com and displays it with your listing, as well as a calculation of the price multiple:

You can also automatically add stats to your listings on Carrillo’s other marketplaces, including the popular BargainDomains.com, as well as PremiumDomains.com, flipping.co, and Catchy.com.

Look for other sites and services to integrate DNW Certified Stats in the future.

Unfortunately I don’t know which podcast this clip came from. There’s no intro or outro, it’s from an interview I stumbled upon through a search for John Reese after I heard about the $million dollar launch of a product called Traffic Secrets. What’s so impressive about John’s story is that he learned from it and moved on.

Quinstreet (QNST) just announced today during its conference call that total consideration it paid for acquiring the domain name Insurance.com was $36.5 Million dollars.

$36.5 MILLION Dollars.

It does not appear from the conference call that Quinstreet acquired or even wanted to acquire the business that was formerly under Insurance.com, making this sound like pretty much a straight domain sale.

However “total consideration” can have more than just cash attached to it, like stock and option and a mixture of cash, but we will have to wait to find out all the details.

Many consider Insurance.com the most valuable domain of all and if so it now raises the bar for all domains to a level most in the domain industry would only image.

The question now is will there be a higher domain sale in the next 10 years than this one and if so which domain?
